About
The overall goal of this Blog and the organization developing it (oneVillage Foundation) is to develop a whole systems approach to the development of the built environment that can be replicated globally in a meaningful and rapid way to address World Urgent ecological and human issues.
Challenges/World Urgent Issues
Humanity through its lack of awareness of the larger consequences of unsustainable development has perpetuated what we term World Urgent Issues. These include:
- Global Climate Change
- Loss of Biodiversity & Species Extinction
- AIDS, Malaria and other infectious diseases in developing nations as well as chronic diseases like Obesity and Diabetes in developed nations
- Digital Divide
- Poverty and Income Divide
The Approach
oneVillage Foundation as part of its mission wants to provide a platform for a integrated approach to sustainable development. We have identified key components in this Integrated Development Approach:
- Information Technologies – Disseminate best practices and encourage community research of what other similar communities have done around the world
- Renewable Energies – Sources of energy that are economically viable, friendly to decentralized application models and ecologically sustainable in every sense of the word.
- EcoBuilding Practices – Consider locally appropriate solutions based on local resources, preferences and aspirations.
- Water and Waste Recycling – Water is Life. Integrated Farming and EcoSan, Humanure are solutions that close the loop when it comes to considering how human waste impacts our lives and that of the environment.
- Sustainable Food Production – Food is biomass that we eat to survive. Often humans do not consider the Silicon Valley adage: Garbage In; Garbage Out which means basically we are what we eat. Sustainable food production considers all aspects of agricultural production from seed to market and then where the food waste goes.
Taken together these constitute an Integrated Development Model called oneVillage Initiative. This can include the deployment of hubs called Unity Centers as multi-purpose facilities to enable a holistic sustainable development model that considers the above categories.
In the Green.onevillage Blog, we organize posts according the five main categories above that constitute an Integrated Development Model/Approach. This weblog is intended as a way to discuss ideas relevant to the development of innovative systems and best practices that we term EcoLiving Solutions.
What we do Here
Through our work we seek to organize the most relevant information about these EcoLiving Solutions to enhance the credibility of the movement to investors, potential stakeholders and donors.
In this weblog, we also will explore various EcoLiving Solutions & approaches. We also want to link these efforts with a more comprehensive approach called Ecological Design which is expressed both in top down approaches in large scale urban planning, architecture (ecological/green architecture) and engineering as well as at a more grassroots level in the ecovillage and intentional communities movements. This weblog was formed in an effort to effectively chronicle these efforts as well as relevant knowledgebases to support and empower this process. The ultimate goal is to create a global Integrated Farming Network, building on what ZERI has already done.
Future Vision
This site is the first step in the development of a comprehensive research program that combines real world work with online research, networking and modeling. This will include the development ICT resources to provide strong links to relevant information that can then be more refined and organized into research materials or other forms of documentation.
What you can do
OVF seeks to work with groups that share our commitment to the development of Appropriate Technologies and approaches in both emerging and developed regions.
